More info on the program:

Dairy Farmers of Manitoba have a Milk Program that aims to encourage kids to drink milk at lunch time.  They promote the nutritional value of milk as a source of nutrients and energy.  The Milk Program uses a reward system to encourage student participation.

The way the program works at Linwood School:

Linwood Parent Council buys 250ml milk from a milk supplier and this milk is stored in a fridge in one of the lunch rooms.

Parent Council volunteers go to each classroom every other Tuesday so students can buy milk tickets.

Milk tickets come in sheets of 5, 10, or 20, and student write their name and room number on their tickets.

During lunch time, students exchange one ticket for a 250ml milk or chocolate milk from a lunch supervisor.

The ticket with the student's name on it is kept as a draw ballot, and during each month, the tickets are drawn.  There are usually a dozen or more tickets drawn each month and students can have their pick from a basket of rewards that are provided by Dairy Farmers of Manitoba.  Rewards typically include pencils, notebooks, keychains, t-shirts etc.

Non-Profit: Milk tickets are priced at $0.80 each which covers the exact cost to purchase the milk.

Bonus:  If students bring their own milk to school from home, they are entitled to fill a draw ballot for a chance to win the rewards.
