Plastic Bag Round Up

Over the past 7 years, elementary schools in Manitoba have collected almost six million plastic bags which have been recycled into special items for their school, such as benches, bird houses, planters and frisbees. Once again, the Giving Tree Club at Linwood School is heading up this challenge. Please send in all types of plastic bags that are ready to be recycled. Groceries bags, shopping bags, ziplock bags, bread bags, produce bags and more are all accepted. Please help our school to protect our environment by sending in bags. The challenge runs from Oct. 1st to 30th. Thank you for your help. For more information, you can check out the Take Pride site: http://www.takepride.mb.ca/?pid=73

Community Management of Head Lice

Head lice commonly occur in young children and as such, at the beginning of the school year, it is good practice to remind parents about detection and management.  The best way to detect and manage head lice is for parents check their children's heads on a regular basis throughout the year.  The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has prepared information for parents available here and here.  Parents may also contact a public health nurse at 204-940-2040.

The Giving Tree Group

The Giving Tree Group is a dedicated group of students at Linwood School who work together to plan and organize events and activities that make our world a better place.  The group is open to any interested student in Grade 1-5.  Meetings take place over the lunch hour - students can listen to the announcements for advance notice on dates.  The first meeting of the year will be held at lunch time on Wednesday, September 30th.  Come out and join us!
